All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services not only repairs, services and inspects septic systems but we also carry out the essential septic maintenance that is always required for your septic system – PUMPING. Regular pumping helps to prevent solids from escaping into your drainfield and clogging the soil. Normally a properly designed septic system has enough space for 3-5 years accumulation of sludge waste. Once waste reaches this point waste has less time to properly settle before leaving the tank into your leach field. This means that more solid waste will get into your leach field. As this becomes clogged liquid waste will not absorb at the rate which it enters the tank so plumbing can backup and waste will reach the surface. To avoid this unpleasant and expensive consequence of neglecting maintenance it is always a good idea to have your septic tank pumped every 3 – 5 years. If you have a garbage disposal you will need to have your septic tank pumped annually. The regularity that you have your system pumped will vary depending on various factors including the size of your septic tank and your water usage. For example a restaurant will need to have its septic pumped more regularly that a summer cottage which is only used in the warmer months. If you are unsure or have any questions please do contact our office where we will be happy to answer any questions that you have. Today we have septic pumping scheduled for property owners in Wrentham, Franklin, Foxboro, Mansfield and Sharon MA. If you need a septic pump out or if you have any questions about septic maintenance or septic systems please do contact our Norton office on 508-763-4431 or visit www.allclearseptic.com

“A cesspool is a pit which acts as both a settling chamber for solids and a leaching system for liquids. The use of cesspools may overload the capacity of the soil to remove bacteria, viruses, and phosphorus, and to nitrify ammonia and organic nitrogen compounds. A conventional septic system has a tank where solids can settle and begin to degrade, a distribution box, and a soil absorption system (SAS) that further treats the effluent by removing some of the bacteria, viruses, phosphorus, and nitrogen.”
Although cesspools are now out of date and there are more efficient and environmentally conscious alternatives Massachusetts does not require them to be replaced. They state that:
“Only those cesspools that exhibit signs of hydraulic failure, are located extremely close to private or public water supplies, or otherwise fail to protect or pose a threat to public health, safety or the environment will need to be upgraded (310 CMR 15.303). Also, cesspools must be upgraded prior to an increase in design flow (e.g., the addition of a bedroom to a home or seats to a restaurant).”
We provide cesspool services to customers so that they can ensure that their system continues to operate correctly. Today we have cesspool services scheduled in Rehoboth, Rochester, Lakeville, Freetown, Dighton and Norton MA. All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services are often called to a client’s property when they require repairs because damage has been done to their septic system’s leach field (also called a drain field). We find that many property owners who know they have a septic system and know they have a septic tank forget, or do not know, that another essential part of their septic system is a leach field. Septic leach fields are used to remove contaminants and impurities from the liquid that emerges from the septic tank. A septic tank, the septic drain field, and the associated piping compose a complete septic system. The septic drain field is effective for disposal of organic materials readily catabolized by a microbial ecosystem.
Some advice to keep your leach field operating correctly is:
DO take the time to ensure that any down spouts or other surface water is diverted away from your drainfield.
DO keep the cover to your septic tank accessible by installing covers and risers for easier inspections and pumping.
DO have an effluent filter installed to prevent debris from entering your drainfield.
DON’T build anything over your drainfield or dig in it for any reason.
DON’T plant any landscaping over your drainfield – except grass.
DON’T drive a vehicle over your drainfield or compact the soil in ANY way.
We have a leach field repair scheduled today in Wayland MA. We also have septic repair appointments in Millis, Sharon, Canton and Norton MA.
