Leach Field Repair in North Attleboro MA

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services are experienced diagnosing and repairing septic systems and leach fields/ drainfields. We have been called in for a leach field repair in North Attleboro MA which has been caused by irregular pumping of their septic system. A septic tank should be pumped every 3 – 5 years depending on various factors including water usage and tank size. If the tank fills up with an excess of solids, the wastewater will not have enough time to settle in the tank. These excess solids will then pass on to the leach field, where they will clog the drain lines and soil. The property owner called us concerned because they had liquid puddling on their leach field and sewage smells coming from it. We were able to educate the customer to help ensure that their problem will not reoccur and begin their leach field repair. We also have other septic repairs scheduled today in Holliston, Sharon, Canton, Franklin, Bellingham and Blackstone MA. If you are concerned that you may need a septic system repair, leach field or drainfield repair, septic pump repair or d-box repair please do contact our office to discuss your concerns and to make an appointment if necessary on 508 763 4431 or visit All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services

Did you Know Cold Weather Can Result In Septic Repairs Being Necessary?

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services know that septic problems arise whatever the weather is doing. However cold weather brings its own set of problems for example:

  • If you have a ‘summer home’ or go away and leave your property for periods of time or just use it part of the week wastewater does not enter the system regularly enough and can freeze
  • If you drive over your septic leach field or drainfield you compact your soil. Compacted soil freezes more easily which can result in damage and possibly a failing septic system. If it is snowy and you drive over the snow on your system the snow will then provide less insulation for your septic system than snow which has been left untouched
  • If you don’t have enough vegetative cover over your septic system you have less insulation from the cold
  • Leaks in your plumbing release water into the septic which can then freeze
  • Poor pipe drainage can be caused by deteriorated pipes, if they are full or back filled with soil or poorly installed. Liquid will pool on one side and can then freeze

Essentially the cold can lead to your septic system freezing which leads to problems, possible repairs and even septic failures. Ironically snow falling is a good thing. Fresh snow is an excellent insulator. As it gets compacted it becomes less effective but it is better than a complete lack of snow cover, dry soil conditions or very cold air temperatures for an extended period of time which will all contribute to septic problems. Today we have appointments in Canton, Stoughton, Sharon, Hingham, Scituate and Hanover MA for septic repairs, some of which are caused by septic system owners not planning for the cold weather. Septic System Maintenance Is Necessary To Avoid Repairs and Failures

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services know that even though it is only January 2nd it suddenly feels like the holidays were a long time ago and we are all getting back into the swing of things. This means that property maintenance that you have perhaps been putting off over the holiday period should now be looked at and not postponed anymore. Septic System Maintenance is really not something that should be put off for too long because if left it can lead to large and expensive repairs being necessary or even a septic failure. The most important septic maintenance is septic pumping. The average recommended pumping frequency is between 3 and 5 years, depending on the tank size and number of occupants. The longer you wait between pumping the greater the likelihood that you may have a septic problem and you will shorten the lifespan of your system and eventually it will fail. As wastewater enters your septic tank from your property, the solid matter will be held in the tank and break down into “sludge” over time, while the liquids continue on to the absorption area (leach field / drain field).

Sludge is never meant to exit your septic tank, so it must be pumped out on a regular basis — you don’t want the sludge to accumulate to the point where it starts exiting the tank towards the absorption area or backing up into your property. Once this happens pumping will not rectify the issue and you will be looking at additional costs to repair your system and if left too long you may have to replace your septic system or at least parts of it which is both expensive and disruptive. We have septic pumping scheduled today for customers who are choosing to keep on top of their septic system maintenance  in Maynard, Stow, Hudson, Boxborough, Bolton and Marlborough MA. If you require septic pumping or if you are not sure if it is time or if you have any questions please do contact our office on 508-763-4431 or visit All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services for an evaluation and to set up quick and easy pumping arrangements.

Septic Repairs on Leach Field in Westport MA

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services is experienced working with entire septic systems which includes the septic tank but also the leach field or drainfield, d-box (distribution box) and any other associated parts such as a septic pump, if used. Many property owners who have a septic system to treat their wastewater forget that an essential part of their septic system is the leach field, or drain field. A conventional septic system consists of a septic tank, a distribution box and a drainfield, all connected by pipes, called conveyance lines. Your home’s wastewater flows into your septic tank where it is held and solids sink to the bottom and lighter scum floats to the top. The solids and scum are decomposed by bacteria and periodically pumped. The treated wastewater or effluent flows through the distribution box into your drainfield or leach field where it then slowly seeps into the subsurface soil where it is further treated and purified (secondary treatment). There are steps that you can take to ensure that your entire septic system continues to operate correctly including:

  • Minimize the use of the garbage disposal (if you have one)
  • Do not put grease down your drains
  • Spread loads of laundry out over time rather than doing multiple loads in a short period of time, and use liquid detergents rather than powdered detergents
  • Avoid excessively long showers
  • Avoid leaving tap water running when shaving, brushing teeth or doing other personal or household tasks
  • Do not flush medications, harmful chemicals, excessive amounts of bleach, harsh drain cleaners or degreasers
  • Have the septic tank pumped at least every three years
  • Do not add any septic systems cleaners, enzymes or additives
  • Remove water conditioning backwash discharges from the septic system
  • Do not plant trees and shrubs over leach fields
  • Do not flush personal products, paper towels, wipes or diapers
  • Do not clean or rinse paint brushes in the sinks
  • Equip all hot tubs, spas, whirlpool baths, etcetera with drain limiting valves that will only allow five gallons per minute to drain from fixture
  • Do not drive vehicles over leach fields

Unfortunately a property owner in Westport, MA called us because they had not considered their leach field when planting multiple trees in their yard and they now have leach field problems. We are providing leach field repairs and a septic system education to hopefully ensure that they can prevent similar breakdowns in the future. We have other septic repairs scheduled today in Acushnet, Marion, Mattapoisett and Freetown MA. If you require a septic repair or if you have any questions about your septic system please do contact our Norton office on 508 763 4431 or visit All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services

Staying On Top Of Your Septic Pumping Can Help You Avoid Septic Problems

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services not only inspects septic systems and repairs septic systems but also provides essential septic system maintenance – perhaps most importantly septic pumping. Septic Systems must be pumped periodically to remain operating correctly. Even if your system seems to be working correctly you do not want to wait it until it shows evidence of septic problems before you choose to pump your system. By then you could have a large septic problem which may require an expensive septic repair whereas staying on top of your septic pumping schedule will ensure that you are doing the most important part of maintaining your septic system. Septic systems do not need to be pumped that often, if fact if you pump too often you can harm your septic system by removing the beneficial bacteria that is required to process your waste. A properly maintained septic system should only be pumped every 2-5 years, as needed, to avoid removing the “good” bacteria and keep the system running smoothly. You only need to have your system pumped annually if you have a garbage disposal. Today we have septic pumping appointments in Bridgewater, Carver, Plymouth, Hingham, Halifax and Scituate MA. If it has been over three years since you had your septic tank pumped, give All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services a call at our Norton office on 508-763-4431 or visit All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services/ for an evaluation and to set up quick and easy pumping arrangements.
