All Clear Septic and Wastewater ServicesAll Clear Septic and Wastewater Services have been contacted by a customer in Hingham MA who require a cesspool replacement. We also have cesspool services scheduled today in Scituate, Hanover, Hanson, Marshfield, Halifax and East Bridgewater MA. As stated on Mas Gov:
“A cesspool is a pit which acts as both a settling chamber for solids and a leaching system for liquids. The use of cesspools may overload the capacity of the soil to remove bacteria, viruses, and phosphorus, and to nitrify ammonia and organic nitrogen compounds. A conventional septic system has a tank where solids can settle and begin to degrade, a distribution box, and a soil absorption system (SAS) that further treats the effluent by removing some of the bacteria, viruses, phosphorus, and nitrogen.”
To sell a property you need a Title 5 Inspection to be done. Title 5 does not require that cesspools be replaced however:
“cesspools that exhibit signs of hydraulic failure, are located extremely close to private or public water supplies, or otherwise fail to protect or pose a threat to public health, safety or the environment will need to be upgraded (310 CMR 15.303). Also, cesspools must be upgraded prior to an increase in design flow (e.g., the addition of a bedroom to a home or seats to a restaurant”.

Our office in Norton is actually serviced by a cesspool and not a septic system or town sewer. We treat our system monthly with bacteria to keep it ‘healthy’ and operating correctly. Certainly a cesspool, if maintained, does not need to be a problem for your property.
If you are not on town sewer and have a cesspool which you are concerned may need replacing or simply needs servicing please contact our office to answer your questions or schedule an appointment on 508-763-4431 or visit http://www.allclearseptic.com
