All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services knows that regular maintenance is the single most important consideration in making sure your septic system, whether it is a conventional septic system, an innovative/alternative system, or a cesspool, works well over time. Regular septic pumping helps prevent solids from escaping into the drainfield and clogging soil pores. It is advisable to have your septic pumped every 3 – 5 years depending on various factors including the size of your tank and the water usage of your property. If you have a garbage disposal you will need to have your system pumped much more regularly, ideally annually.
Surprisingly some property owners with septic systems do not realise that septic systems need to be regular septic pumping and believe that if they haven’t had any problems then their system doesn’t need a pump out. Unfortunately this is a serious and sometimes costly misconception. As your system is used, solid materials settle to the bottom of the tank, forming a sludge layer. Grease and lightweight materials float to the surface of the septic tank as scum. Normally, properly designed tanks have enough space for up to three to five years’ safe accumulation of sludge. When the sludge level increases beyond this point, sewage has less time to settle properly before leaving the tank. As the sludge level increases, more solid wastes escape into the soil absorption system (SAS). If the SAS becomes so clogged that it cannot absorb liquid at the rate at which it enters the tank, the plumbing will “back up” or unsanitary wastewater will bubble to the surface. Nobody wants this to happen at their property, whether it is a private residence or commercial location so make sure that if you have a septic system that you have it regularly pumped and if you do not know if it is needed please do contact us where we will be happy to speak to you. We have septic pumping scheduled for customers today in Sharon, Marshfield, Hingham, Hanson, Stoughton and Hanover MA. All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services know that most people will only ever need to have a Title 5 Inspection (sometimes called a Title V Inspection) done when they sell a home with a septic system and, unless they move a lot, they are unlikely to need to have one done many times. Therefore it stands to reason that most people do not know what to expect when they schedule a septic inspection or even how to prepare for one. We have had more than one customer assume that a septic system should be pumped before an inspection takes places so that we can ‘see’ what we are inspecting. The is absolutely not the case. The State of Massachusetts requires that your system be inspected under “normal use conditions” for a minimum of 2 weeks or more. We regularly pump septic systems for customers after they have had their Title 5 septic inspection once it has passed however. Today we have Title 5 Inspection appointments scheduled in Stoughton, Canton, Sharon, Hanover, Hingham, Norwell and Halifax MA. This is what our customers can expect from their official Title 5 Septic Inspection – the inspector will:
- conduct an interview with the property owner
- research the paperwork for your property at your city’s Board of Health Department
- survey the general size of the building or list a summary of the number of bedrooms
- inspects the connection from the house/building to the system
- inspects the inlet/outlet of the septic tank
- examines the integrity of the tank
- measures the liquid/contents of the tank
- examines the integrity of the distribution box
- measures the liquid/contents of the distribution box
- checks the soil absorption system (SAS) condition
- checks the relation of the system’s water table to the SAS
- examines the integrity of the pipes using a special “sewer cam” (All Clear Septic and Wastewater specialty service, not required by the state)
- provides an official 17-page document to the local approving authority and the owner, including all findings and a detailed sketch of the system

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services know that if a septic system is used correctly and maintained it should process your wastewater effectively and efficiently without interference. However if you neglect regular septic maintenance it will undoubtedly stop working effectively and could eventually fail which is a unpleasant and costly and either means a septic repair or even septic system replacement. Regular septic maintenance does not need to happen that often. It is generally recommended that a septic system is pumped every 3-5 years. The exact regularity of your septic pumps outs is determined by a variety of factors including your water usage and size of your tank. For example a retired couple living in a large 5 bedroom family home with occasional family visitors will not need to have their tank pumped as often as they did when they have 4 teenagers living at home. You will, however, need to have you septic system pumped annually if you use a garbage disposal. Today we have septic pumping scheduled in Norwell, Hingham, Marshfield, Scituate, Hanover, Plymouth and Halifax MA. If you require septic pumping or have any questions about septic systems or septic maintenance please do contact us at our Norton office on 508-763-4431 or visit http://allclearseptic.com/education/
