How Do You Know When You Need Septic Pumping

tipsAll Clear Septic and Wastewater Services are always available for property owners who need advice about their septic system. If you own a septic system, it is important that it is properly maintained. The most important septic system maintenance is having your septic system pumped. How often you need to pump the solids out of your septic tank depends on factors including:

  • the number of people in your household
  • the amount of wastewater generated (based on the number of people in the household and the amount of water used)
  • the volume of solids in the wastewater (e.g., using a garbage disposal will increase the amount of solids)
  • the size of your septic tank

Generally you should have your septic system pumped every 3-5 years but the above factors can dramatically change this. For example is you have, and use, a garbage disposal your system will need to be pumped annually. Today we have septic pumping scheduled in Attleboro, Bellingham, Foxboro, Mansfield, Franklin and North Attleboro MA. If you need a septic pump out or if you have questions about your septic system please do contact our office on 508-763-4431 or visit http://www.allclearseptic.com

Septic System Preventative Maintenance Provided To Customers

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services is fortunate to have many long term customers who we have developed excellent working relationships with. This may seem unusual for a septic company but in addition to repairing and inspecting septic systems we also provide septic system preventative maintenance programs for our customers which many property owners continue to receive for many years because they are so pleased with the service that we provide. We monitor and maintain our customers’ septic systems so they can be confident that their septic system is working correctly and will continue to do so. Nobody likes to have to deal with a septic breakdown but this is especially true for commercial business owners who lose revenue when they are unable to open due to a septic problem. That is why our customers include many local restaurants, takeaways, coffee shops and fast food restaurants. Septic system preventative maintenance is provided discreetly and quickly without causing any downtown in operation which is, of course, essential. We also service residential customers properties and the regularity of our services depends on the septic system and the use it gets. We have customers who have a 2nd home on the Cape who don’t use their system all year round so they do not need their system to be serviced as frequently as a busy fast food restaurant. We generally see our customers on a quarterly, biannual or annual basis, as required. In actuality we don’t even need to ‘see’ our clients when we carry out a service because we can usually access the septic system without the property owners assistance. Septic Pumping Also Provided By All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services not only inspects septic systems and repairs septic systems but also provides essential septic system maintenance – perhaps most importantly septic pumping. Septic Systems must be pumped periodically to remain operating correctly. Even if your system seems to be working correctly you do not want to wait it until it shows evidence of septic problems before you choose to pump your system. By then you could have a large septic problem which may require an expensive septic repair whereas staying on top of your septic pumping schedule will ensure that you are doing the most important part of maintaining your septic system. Septic systems do not need to be pumped that often, if fact if you pump too often you can harm your septic system by removing the beneficial bacteria that is required to process your waste. A properly maintained septic system should only be pumped every 2-5 years, as needed, to avoid removing the “good” bacteria and keep the system running smoothly. You only need to have your system pumped annually if you have a garbage disposal. Today we have septic pumping appointments in Bridgewater, Canton, Middleboro, Mansfield, Stoughton and Raynham MA. If it has been over three years since you had your septic tank pumped, give All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services a call at our Norton office on 508-763-4431 for an evaluation and to set up quick and easy pumping arrangements.

Leach Field Problem Identified and Repaired

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services have been contacted by a client in North Attleboro who suspects that they have a leach field problem. They have noticed a sewage smell in their yard around the leach field area and there is a consistent wet, sogginess on the field. Other signs that you may have a problem can include lush vegetation over the leach field, frequent pumping of the tank being required, and/or slow drains.

Leach fields fail for two primary reasons. The main reason is referred to as biological clogging. This is the development of a biomat beneath the drainfield that eventually prevents the liquid or effluent from entering the underlying soil. This biomat is a combination of fine organic solids that have been carried out of the septic tank and the remnants of anaerobic bacteria. These bacteria originate in the human intestinal tract and enter the septic system with the waste products. 95% of all leach field failures are biological. The second primary reason is referred to as a mechanical failure. This could be a structural collapse of the leach field piping or chambers, root intrusion, or fine non-organic materials that are washed down to the bottom of the leach field and seal the soil.

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services have many years experience identifying and repairing leach field problems and will find locate and repair our client’s leach field problem. Septic Pumping Is Essential Septic Maintenance

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services not only repairs, services and inspects septic systems but we also carry out the essential septic maintenance that is always required for your septic system – PUMPING. Regular pumping helps to prevent solids from escaping into your drainfield and clogging the soil. Normally a properly designed septic system has enough space for 3-5 years accumulation of sludge waste. Once waste reaches this point waste has less time to properly settle before leaving the tank into your leach field. This means that more solid waste will get into your leach field. As this becomes clogged liquid waste will not absorb at the rate which it enters the tank so plumbing can backup and waste will reach the surface. To avoid this unpleasant and expensive consequence of neglecting maintenance it is always a good idea to have your septic tank pumped every 3 – 5 years. If you have a garbage disposal you will need to have your septic tank pumped annually. The regularity that you have your system pumped will vary depending on various factors including the size of your septic tank and your water usage. For example a restaurant will need to have its septic pumped more regularly that a summer cottage which is only used in the warmer months. If you are unsure or have any questions please do contact our office where we will be happy to answer any questions that you have. Septic Cleanings Will Keep Your Septic System Operating Correctly

All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services has septic cleanings scheduled in Holliston, Canton, Foxboro, Stoughton, Sharon and Mansfield MA. It is essential to have your septic system pumped and cleaned regularly to ensure it keeps operating correctly. The timing of your cleanings will depend on a variety of factors including the size of your tank and the amount of use it gets but generally septic tanks should be cleaned every 3 years, or annually if you have a waste disposal. Essentially all of the wastewater from you sink, shower, bath, toilet, washing Machine etc leave your house and combine in your septic tank. But once there it separates into heavy sludge which sinks to the bottom of your tank, proteins, fats and oils become a floating scum layer and in the middle is the liquid effluent. It is the effluent that drains into your leachfield or drainfield. Even with a healthy and correctly operating septic system the sludge layer will build up which therefore requires septic cleaning to remove it and ensure that your system continues to operate correctly. At All Clear Septic and Wastewater Services we utilize specialized miniature equipment to locate specific areas of your system, such as a sewer cam that is used to investigate the inside of your sewer lines, and jetting equipment to clean the pipes within the leach field to ensure that we perform a thorough septic cleaning.
